Wanna dress like a skater?

Learning to skate on a skateboard can be fun. It can also be a challenge, a painful one at that. Watching someone skateboarding makes it look easy. It is not, and takes a great deal of hard work, time, and most likely pain. After you learn, the next step is dressing to look like a skater.

Steps to dress like a skater:

  1. Research skateboarding brands on the internet, as it can lead you to discovering companies whom you've never heard of, but have some sick products. Skateboarding is about being yourself, not a stereotype.
  2. Buy yourself some skate shoes. Most skaters wear them, as they are specifically manufactured for skateboarding (Some have extra stitching.), and do not go for whichever looks the coolest; if you're a true skater, they'll be ripped in no time. Some good brands are 'es, DVS, Supra, Emerica, and Fallen. It is up to you.
  3. Keep your hair long or short. Whatever is comfortable for you works. Long shaggy hair isn't a sign for a skater like people think, Andrew Reynolds is a real skater and he doesn't have long hair and not all skaters do. You can make your hair spiky, messy, or versace -- whatever you want.
  4. Choose comfortable clothing. Wear any type of shirt, depending on your comfort level and your taste. Select either short sleeved or long sleeved, and buy pants that enable you flexibility while skateboarding. Look for comfort first, and style next. Once you've found a style look at your local skate-shop for brand tees. You can also wear New Era caps for a skater style. DC, Etnies, and Vans hats are recommended. If you want you can also wear baseball team caps. Flat brim 59Fifty hats are recommended.
  5. Don't wear skating brand shirts all the time. Wear casual clothing as well. Striped shirts, plain t shirts , hoodies, brands shirts all that is skateboarder clothes. Sweet band shirts are good for skater style.
  6. Don't wear "Phat Farm," "Southpole," or "Famous Stars and Straps" at all unless you want the gangster look, which is not skater.
  7. Try to take some examples from video games like "Tony Hawk" but DON'T COPY just take examples only to any one who says that skateboarders should wear skulls shirts or leather jackets that's totally not a skater.
  8. Don't let anyone tell you a formula for skater style. It is YOUR style, you make it. You're reading this just for ideas.

Tips when dressing like a skater:

  • Look in skate magazines to notice what other skateboarders wear when skating. Brady Emery is a good example of a clean skater.
  • Look at other skaters and see what they wear.
  • Fit in but don't try to be a copy-cat. Wear what you like without looking like a fool.
  • Having scraped elbows and knees and a ripped pair of jeans might look cool, but don't scrape your elbows and rip your jeans on purpose, since that is seriously being a poser. Instead, just think of it as a thing gained if you have a bad fall. Although you wouldn't think so normally.
  • Having torn up shoes is a sign of a skater, but real skaters hate it when their shoes get torn up. Because of that don't go cutting up your shoes, it just ruins your shoes and makes you look like a poser. It also pisses off skaters because they understand that rips are the cause of the end of their shoes' life and you are basically saying that you want to ruin your shoes.
  • If you do want to dress like a skater, make sure you don't look like a clone, it's not cool and you'll end up looking like a poser. So don't be afraid to stand out, it's not like looking like everyone else will make you a better skater.
  • SKATERS HATE POSERS!!!(if you are already a skater, you understand), so don't just skate to brag or for the look.

  • If you are are a trendy type of skater, wear KR3W, Etnies, Plan B, and DVS clothes. If you dress like other kinds of skaters, wear Element, Baker, Burton, Analog, Hurley, Quicksiler, Volcom, etc. clothes. If you lean more towards hip hop, buy Zoo York, DGK, and City Stars products (City Stars is pretty hard to find though).
